Event viewing instructions:

2.  Put your cursor on the event and you will see a small pop-up box with the name of the event, the time and price,
3.  Now left double-click on the event itself: a full -page window will open, with all the information about the event. This window has a white background and black distinctive easy- to- see writing.

THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE: HOUSING CHOICES OF THE FUTURE

The second annual Changing Landscapes forum will showcase a variety of innovative housing choices that enable everyone to remain in the community as we age and our capacities change.   

This is an opportunity to explore these models and consider how these models could be available in the Jewish community.

Four panelists will speak about a variety of housing models and living arrangements that facilitate aging in place.

Following the presentations, participants will have an opportunity to meet with individual panel members to discuss the models in more detail.

Keynote Speaker:  Dan Levitt, Executive Director, Tabor Village

Everyone welcome.  Free of charge.

JSA Empowerment #1 BE INSPIRED THROUGH STORY AND SONG

Join us for our first Empowerment Series with  Shanie Levin and Myrna Rabinowitz . Shanie will read stories that inspire and Myrna will sing songs in that vein. Most of the stories and songs will be translations from Yiddish.  

Cosponsored by Sholom Aleichem Seniors of the Vancouver Peretz Centre and JSA Snider Foundation Empowerment Series.

BI: Leah, Teddy and the Mandolin Documentary (Jewish South Africa)

Using 1o years of archival footage, Leah, Teddy and the Mandolin showcases the Annual Leah Todres Yiddish Song Festival, which was held in Cape Town.  The documentary features stirring renditions of classic Yiddish songs like “Romania Romania” and “Mayn Shtetele Belz,” as well as two original songs written for the festival by Hal Shaper, a renowned songwriter, which are sung with passion by talented South African Jews of all Ages.

Empowerment Series #2 BE INSPIRED, MOVIE “Music of the Heart”

Music of the Heart stars Meryl Streep, Angela Bassett, and Cloris Leachman.  The film is based on the true story of the founder of the Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. 

Th film was nominated for 11 awards, including 2 Academy Award nominations. 

It runs 2 hours, screening starts at 11 am. We will start with coffee and sweets.

Music to fill the heart and  soul with Wendy Bross Stuart, Lisa Osipov Milton, Kat Palmer and David Yurist. Plus a special guest. They will sing in Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino and English. 

The English songs will be from musical theatre written by Jewish composers on a Jewish theme. Solos, duets and full ensemble singing.

Empowerment Series Be Inspired #3 – Outwitting Adversity: The Story of an Inspiring Woman

Lynn is a distinguished scholar of the poet, mystic and political activist Thomas Merton. She is the editor of the first comprehensive selection of his poetry and is Professor Emeritus of English Literature, Trinity Western University. Additional areas of scholarship included Literature & Spirituality and Christian mysticism. In her retirement, Lynn serves as a spiritual director, a mentor to writers and a facilitator of a book club group for the National Council of Jewish Women. She also has a lot of fun hosting salons in her home and terrorizing the local population in her wheelchair!
