This 2014-2015 year the JSA-Snider Foundation Empowerment Series continues with the theme “The Three E’s: Elders Empowering Elders”, and empower you by warming your heart as well as stimulating your brain.
Would you like to go to the movies? Yes? That is exactly what about 80 people did on Nov. 25 at the Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture, thanks to the wonderful combined effort of Jewish Seniors Alliance and Vancouver Jewish Film Centre, which co-host a movie screening scheduled on the afternoon of the last Tuesday of every month.
The program, “Stories that Sing,” emerged when members of the Jewish Seniors Alliance asked me to provide a storytelling session for their anual Empowerment Series that would put “…a smile on your face (and) a song in your heart.”
“When you know what you are doing, then you can do what you want!”
How appropriate that some of us who recently spent two nights as part of the Passover seders sitting upright or reclining, as directed, were now taught how to sit upright properly.
“Teach the world to sing“ a duet by Maurice Moses and Debbie Crossover, included in the performance of the JCC Showtime, set the tone of an afternoon performance of joyful entertainment for the theme – “A Smile on your Face -A Song in your Heart.”
