Event viewing instructions:

1.  You will see the events of the whole month, in small segments, in the colour of the organization, with the title of the event and the time,
2.  Put your cursor on the event and you will see a small pop-up box with the name of the event, the time and price,
3.  Now left double-click on the event itself: a full -page window will open, with all the information about the event. This window has a white background and black distinctive easy- to- see writing.

Renewing and Reinventing Ourselves: Writing Our Own Stories

Lunch at 11.45 am; Program at 12:45 pm. 

Irene Dodek, one of two charter members of the Jewish museum and Archives of B.C., will offer her insights into how to interview persons of interest for the Jewish Archives. Irene is a graduate of UBC in anthropology and museum studies. She has interviewed several hundred people in  the Vancouver community. Irene was also an interviewer for the Steven Spielberg Shoah Foundation project.

JSA SPRING FORUM: Masks, Revelation and Selfhood

Since August 2018, Louis Brier residents have explored themes of personhood and creative expression, crafting stunning masks, creative narratives, and original dances with Expressive Arts Therapist Call Power, and choreographer Lee Kwidzinski. Join us as we explore the project and view the documentary by filmmaker Jay Fox.

Reserve by Sept. 9th. Delicious Salmon dinner with vegetarian/vegan options, provided by Nava Catering. 

The 2019 AGM Honourees are Jack Wizenberg of Tikva Housing Society, Tzvia Estrin of Yaffa Housing Society, and Maurice Moses for his volunteer work with different community organizations. 

Dinner will be followed by a silent auction. Featuring the debut of JSA’s new video.

Building support for multicultural older adults in Greater Vancouver! 

Come and be a part of our dynamic team as we share the unique experiences of aging among cultures. Let’s exchange stories, strategies, and successes in order to enhance each of our organizations. 

Join us as we identify commonalities and  outline the gaps in service to multi-ethnic seniors. Explore possible solutions to these deficits and develop an action  plan that share the information gained at the forum.

THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE: HOUSING CHOICES OF THE FUTURE

The second annual Changing Landscapes forum will showcase a variety of innovative housing choices that enable everyone to remain in the community as we age and our capacities change.   

This is an opportunity to explore these models and consider how these models could be available in the Jewish community.

Four panelists will speak about a variety of housing models and living arrangements that facilitate aging in place.

Following the presentations, participants will have an opportunity to meet with individual panel members to discuss the models in more detail.

Keynote Speaker:  Dan Levitt, Executive Director, Tabor Village

Everyone welcome.  Free of charge.

JSA Empowerment #1 BE INSPIRED THROUGH STORY AND SONG

Join us for our first Empowerment Series with  Shanie Levin and Myrna Rabinowitz . Shanie will read stories that inspire and Myrna will sing songs in that vein. Most of the stories and songs will be translations from Yiddish.

Empowerment Series #2 BE INSPIRED, MOVIE “Music of the Heart”

Music of the Heart stars Meryl Streep, Angela Bassett, and Cloris Leachman.  The film is based on the true story of the founder of the Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. 

Th film was nominated for 11 awards, including 2 Academy Award nominations. 

It runs 2 hours, screening starts at 11 am. We will start with coffee and sweets.
