Join Ben Shneiderman as he explores the influential lives of his parents, journalists Samuel and Eileen Shneiderman, in the turbulent times leading up to World War II, as well as his uncle, legendary photojournalist, David Seymour (Chim). Inspired by their examples, Ben became a computer scientist and technology innovator, shaping widely used commercial products.
Coming from Poland, the Yiddish journalism of my parents, (Samuel L. Shneiderman (1906-1996) and Eileen Shneiderman (1908-2004), in France, Spain, and then New York, had great impact as did the photojournalism of my legendary uncle (David Seymour-Chim, 1911-1956, Home page) in the turbulent times leading up to World War II. Then coming to North America, they resumed their work in new surroundings with new languages. Inspired by their examples, I became a computer scientist and technology innovator, shaping widely used commercial products, even as I moved to Vancouver.
