Members of the committee are:
Serge Haber, Edith Shier, Peter Kafka, Jackie Weiler, Pamella Ottem, Charles Liebovitch and Grace Hann.
I wish to thank them for their commitment and work on behalf of Seniors.
The Peer Support Program includes the following services:
2.FRIENDLY HOME VISITING PROGRAM:
This program now has a 12 hour training program preparing volunteers for home visiting. The educational component of this program was revised this year to increase the educational time. There have been 2 educational sessions to train volunteers to provide this service this year.
Both the Senior Peer Counsellor and the Friendly Home Visiting Program provide volunteers with a certificate of completion, a graduation ceremony, continuing educational sessions and individual coaching from our staff.
3.SHALOM AGAIN or regular friendly phone calls to isolated seniors.
4.SENIORS INFORMATION AND REFERRAL LINE:
Providing seniors with information about services they may require and how to contact them.
5.TRANSPORTATION TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS
6.BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP:
is a new program which started in September 2014 to support grieving seniors.
The other accomplishments this year have been:
partnering with numerous other senior services such as acute care and community health services, community centers and neighborhood houses; adopting other peer counsellors when their parenting organization could no longer provide this service; updating our brochure; changing one of the staff members and hiring Grace Hann; increasing our profile in the community while maintaining a quality service to seniors.
Our goals for the future are to continue to provide the above quality services to seniors while increasing other services we hope will support our senior population.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our two very dedicated and hard working staff members Charles Liebovitch and Grace Hann. I would also like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who give their time and care to provide these services to seniors, without you we could not do this work.
