Senior Line Magazine

outreach_publication_seniorlinemagazineThe Senior Line Magazine – a no-cost, published three times a year – is one of the main avenues of communication between the Jewish Senior Alliance (JSA), its general membership, and the Jewish senior population at large who reside in the Greater Vancouver or Lower Fraser Valley areas. The publication contains: original stories, columns and articles pertaining to seniors (i.e. health, personal and environmental safety, social and familial relationships.) In addition to the aforementioned, the magazine keeps the readers abreast of current JSA activities and community happenings. Each edition includes a three-month calendar of ongoing events, when and where these take place and how they can be accessed.

The free of charge Senior Line magazine has a circulation of approximately 5,000. The free-of-charge magazine is delivered directly by Canada Post to the homes of all Jewish seniors in our database. In addition, copies are available for perusal throughout the Greater Vancouver/Lower Fraser Valley library systems, community organizations, senior centers, religious and government institutions and at businesses frequented by Jewish and other seniors. The no-cost magazine can best be described as a lifeline for many socially-isolated and shut-in seniors. By receiving, or having access to an ethnic publication, the recipients feel included in their communities and become familiar with culturally specific social and recreational resources that are available and suitable for their particular needs.

The Jewish Senior Alliance will adapt any of its services to increase accessibility and will also respond to community needs. The Senior Line is no exception to this rule, thus when requested by Jewish seniors whose vernacular language is Russian to include articles and information in that language this was immediately arranged.

The Senior Line Magazine is the only publication of this kind available to Jewish seniors; it is a magazine developed and produced by seniors for seniors.

The magazine is maintained as hard copy format to accommodate seniors who are not computer literate. The latest edition as well as archived editions are available on JSA website below.
