Music For Our Hearts and Songs We Love

Music For Our Hearts and Songs We Love

On Monday, June 25th Jewish Seniors Alliance and Kehila Society of Richmond co-sponsored the fifth in our series of Empowerment Programs. This year’s theme was “Laugher and Music: Feeding the Soul” and the sub-title for this final event in the series was “Music for our Hearts and Songs We Love.”  Toby Rubin, the coordinator of Kehila, introduced the afternoon and welcomed everyone, encouraging us to enjoy the tasty lunch prepared by Stacy Kettleman. The Kehila volunteers helped with the setup, serving and clearing of the lunch. About one hundred enthusiastic attendees dug into the summertime lunch of burgers and hot dogs.

After lunch we proceeded to the sanctuary to be entertained by Caviar and Lace, Michelle Carlisle and Saul Berson. This duo performed an eclectic mix of classic, jazz and folk songs.

Michelle plays piano and Saul plays a variety of instruments from saxophone to clarinet. They both played and sang, encouraging the audience to join in. The mix of oldies and especially songs from the 50’s were indeed music to the ears of the listeners who were familiar with most of the melodies.

This programme wrapped up this year’s JSA Snider Foundation Empowerment Series. We look forward to presenting to our enthusiastic audiences throughout Greater Vancouver an exciting and informative new series in 2018-19.
