Meet our Honourees:
Shelley Rivkin, RSW MSW, brings decades of leadership in community planning and engagement. A passionate advocate for the Vancouver Jewish community, she led Jewish Federation’s planning and grantmaking for 17+ years, helped launch JSA’s peer services, and spearheaded strategies on food security and COVID recovery. Shelley now serves as Executive Director of Schara Tzedeck, sits on the Jewish Family Services board, and teaches at Langara College. Her work reflects a deep commitment to collaboration, innovation, and community well-being.
Barb Mikulec is a retired teacher who serves on the provincial Board of the BC Retired Teachers Association. Barb is chair of the teachers’ R. R. Smith Memorial Foundation. She is 1st VP of COSCO the Council of Seniors Citizens Organizations of BC and serves on Finance, Communications and Strategic Policy committees. Barb is chair of the Seniors Health and Wellness Institute which facilitates over 300 free workshops yearly. She serves as 1st VP of the National Pensioners Federation. She also serves on the Council of Advisors for the Seniors Advocate of BC.
Ken Levitt was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1937. In 1966 he graduated from UBC with a Master of Social Work degree. Ken has held senior positions in family service and in child welfare in BC. He was appointed as a Regional Manager of child and financial welfare, a position he held for 10 years. He is the co-editor of The Challenge of Child Welfare (UBC Press, 1985), the first academic textbook on the status of child welfare in Canada. It was beshert that in 1985 Ken became Administrator of Louis Brier Home and Hospital. He retired in 2002 after more than 16 years.
Ken has an extensive history of volunteerism, serving on numerous Boards including Congregation Beth Israel, and Association of Jewish Aging Services. He has served as Chair of Jewish Seniors
Alliance, President of BC Association of Social Workers, and Chair of the Camp Miriam Camp Committee.
This year marks the 63rd wedding anniversary for Ken and his wife Leah. Their family are their pride and joy. Ken’s volunteer ethic: Get involved! Be an active participant! Make a difference!

Mariette Doduck is a child survivor of the Holocaust, a passionate community leader and committed Holocaust Educator. Mariette was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1935. As a child, Mariette survived the war in hiding. After the war, Mariette came to Canada in 1947 as a war orphan. Mariette has received numerous awards for her community leadership work and activism. She is a cofounder of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre (VHEC). As a VHEC outreach speaker, and author of this powerful memoir A Childhood Unspoken, Mariette has shared her experiences of the Holocaust with thousands of students and public audiences, both locally in BC and around the world.
Please note: Anyone who has made a donation of $18 or more in the last 12 months is considered a member in good standing and is eligible to vote at the AGM.
Members are invited to submit nominations for election to the Board of Directors providing nominations are submitted at least two (2) weeks prior to the date of the AGM together with written confirmation from the persons nominated as Directors that they are prepared to serve if elected.
