Event viewing instructions:

1.  You will see the events of the whole month, in small segments, in the colour of the organization, with the title of the event and the time,
2.  Put your cursor on the event and you will see a small pop-up box with the name of the event, the time and price,
3.  Now left double-click on the event itself: a full -page window will open, with all the information about the event. This window has a white background and black distinctive easy- to- see writing.

For those researchers who feel that they need extra help with their genealogical research, representatives from the Jewish Genealogical Institute of BC are available to assist with genealogical queries. Free access to our databases-(ancestry.com, findmypast.com )  and computers at Jewish Museum & Archives of BC is available on the last Sunday of each month. Phone for appointment, 604-257-5199.

These databases are available for anyone’s use free of charge, during the operating hours of the Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia. A nominal charge will be made for document photocopies. Researchers must book an appointment with the Archivist to use the programs. Appointments will be booked in two hour blocks.

I.L. Peretz reading and discussion group of Peretz’s stories and poetry, in English.

Starting in  September, the group has decided to read short stories by other Jewish authors either in translation or those written in English. 

Meets 2nd and 4th Saturday each month.

Are you prepared? For End-of-Life? For Incapacity? For your Future?

What are the  key legal documents in BC to plan for incapacity, end-of-life and after death? Who gets copies and where do you register your plans so they are available when needed?

Representation Agreement Presentation- Planning for the Future, Incapacity and End-of-Life Care with Maureen MacDonald. 

A will is not enough. We will provide an overview of Representation Agreements, Enduring Powers of Attorney and Wills. No registration required. 

“Help for Seniors” with Representation Agreements and related planning: 

A Nidus-trained volunteer will meet with seniors to help them decide about planning for the future. The appointments are 30 minutes and are free. Seniors can book another appointment if needed. 

Friday afternoons, 1:00 – 3:30 pm. By appointment only, no drop-ins. Phone South Granville Seniors Centre at 604-732-0812. Ask to make an appointment for Representation Agreements with Maureen.

Radical Readings: Biblical Symbolism in Leonard Cohen’s Songs

Matthew Gindin’s Radical Readings series will be on Oct. 18, 7 pm. 

Topic: Biblical Symbolism in Leonard Cohen’s Songs. 

Leonard Cohen made extensive and brilliant use of symbols and images from the Hebrew bible and Jewish Spiritual literature in his songs. We’ll go through the lyrics to three songs and discuss the riches to be found there upon close reading. 

Matthew Gindin is a journalist and educator and is the Education Director at the Peretz Centre. This is the second class in this year’s series of five lectures.

He is currently writing a book about Cohen’s spiritual life.
